Summer is Coming!

Photo courtesy of Becky Hill Photography.

With summer just around the corner and flowers in bloom everywhere I go, it seems that all I can think about lately is summer weddings! The weather is always gorgeous and summer is a great excuse for bright colors, gauzy dresses, and outdoor parties!! Iced tea, fresh fruit, sunglasses and sandals… happy sigh.

I saw this summer social photo shoot recently on Inspired by This and got all excited! I just love all of the red and fuchsia and purple paired with warm neutrals. It just looked so bright and cheerful and summery that I wished I could walk right into the photos and take a nap under an oak tree with my toes in the sun. I could practically taste the fruit punch and feel the warm breeze on my face.

Can’t you just see this for a summer wedding or other event? It would be so much fun to create paper designs for a party like this. Imagine receiving an invite for this in the mail… I know that I would be there in a heartbeat!

The Magic of Patterns

In terms of design, there are few things that I love as much as color. Especially when you take a few colors and bring them all together in a unique way to create something special! You can make a warm color look cool or vice versa depending on what you pair it with. You can make neutrals look bright and summery and you can tone down vibrant hues or set them off depending on what you set next to it.

One of the best ways to tie colors together is to pair them with just the right pattern – discovering that perfect combination that makes magic happen. That’s one of the things I love most about paper design! You take two things that are great on their own, but show that they are infinitely better together (just like the beautiful couples that are getting married and hire us to do their designs for them!)

Take a look at some of these gorgeous color/pattern combinations from our vendor, Envelopments! Imagine any of these summery color schemes as the foundation for your invite…

Tobacco, Bronze, Pyrite, Burnt Sugar from Envelopments

French Roast, Dahlia, Pyrite, Osetra from Envelopments

Dragonfly, Tahitian Pearl, London Fog from Envelopments

Dove, Lava Lamp, Classic Ecru, Mystic from Envelopments

Tree-Free Ivory, Reef, Magnolia, Tangelo from Envelopments

We absolutely love the look on a bride’s face when she rests her gaze on the completed invite, and finally sees everything come together. We know that we’ve done our part to help make her dream wedding come true.

A Wedding & Glam Princess Party

One of our recent projects was to create signs and candy bag tags for a super glam princess party! What’s great is that the we actually created the wedding invites for the couple who hired us several years ago, and they liked it so much they asked us to create paper goods for the party.

I met the bride's aunt, Janice, eons ago when I worked in the benefits industry. When her niece, Rebecca, got engaged, she contacted me to have BG create her invites and  reception accessories. Her wedding, of course, was amazing, as you can see from the pictures!

Rebecca and Nick now have a sweet daughter, Ella, who just turned 4. They hired a coordinator to throw miss Ella a super glam princess party and asked us to create signage for her bash too! We had a blast, and of course I had to share photos from both events with all of you.

BG Design Studio truly creates ALL things paper -- from weddings, to birth announcements, to birthdays, galas, corporate events... all of life's special occasions!! So if you have an event that you need paper designs for, contact us and tell us all about it.

Wedding Invitation Inspiration!

Are you fun and flirty, or sweet and elegant? Is your wedding color scheme a relatively neutral palette, or is it splashed with lots of cheerful colors? Is it going to be a formal occasion, or a more intimate wedding for a small group of family and friends?

These are all questions that you will want to ask yourself when you begin contemplating what you would like your wedding invites to look like. The invitation is the first contact with all of your guests (aside from those that you already called the moment after you got engaged, squealing with delight, thrilled down to the tips of your toes!!) It must speak to what the event will be like: set the tone, give them a sense of the setting, and invite them to come spend your special day with you.

Most importantly, the invitation should have YOU written all over it. For example, look at these gorgeous invites for a beautiful wedding on a ranch. You can practically smell the horses and feel the dirt under your cowboy boots as you breathe the fresh, clear air. It’s completely personal.

Pairing Dresses with Invites!

Photo courtesy of Kris Rae & Kristen.
Invite Design by BG Design Studio.

I don’t know where I got this crazy idea, but I was suddenly struck by how fun it would be to find the perfect bridesmaid dresses to match with our original invite and other paper designs. I know that there were dozens of other wedding items I could have chosen to pair them with, like flowers or shoes or décor, but something about bridesmaid dresses just called to me. “Make me a match!” they sang.

So before I knew it, I was gasping with delight as I found the perfect dresses to go next to each invite. I was hopeless to try to stop the sudden inspiration that completely overtook me!! But sometimes those perfect combinations can be just the right look and feel that give you an idea for your own special day!!!

But when you think about it, it makes a lot of sense. The color palette you choose for your wedding should really carry over into everything. When you find that perfect color combo that just expresses your style and personality – you’re golden!
